Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis said officers responded to the area of 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of two kids left unattended in a vehicle.

The car was not left running, and the windows were only slightly down, according to Lewis. Officers contacted the children, who did not appear to be injured.

Lewis said a 17-year-old girl was located nearby with two other children. She reportedly had "gone on a Starbucks run" and left two of the kids behind in the car.

According to Lewis, officers found drugs in the vehicle and the teen was detained. Charges of child neglect and marijuana possession are being recommended, Lewis said.

All of the children involved are safe and with family.
