Three people have been hospitalized after two separate crashes near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road Saturday morning.

Phoenix police say the first crash happened around 12:30 a.m. when a pickup truck hit what’s believed to be an Uber driver near the intersection. Police don’t know if the Uber driver was in service at the time or not, but say there were no passengers when the car was hit.

Police say the driver of the pickup is believed to be impaired and has life threatening injuries. The driver of the Uber car was also transported to the hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

A second crash happened after police closed the road, when a motorcyclist failed to see crime tape around the scene. Police say the person swerved at the last second to avoid hitting a police officer and slid crashing their bike. The rider wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries.

Police believe the driver of the motorcycle may have been impaired as well.
