PHOENIX — A woman was arrested after leaving her two children inside of her apartment near 35th Avenue and Greenway Road.

Court documents state that they were called to the residence to do a welfare check in regards to two juveniles being left unattended, and yelling and pounding on the walls of the apartment.

When officers arrived on scene they did not hear anything, but they were able to see a boy sleeping. The officers then knocked on the door and no one answered.

After obtaining information on who occupied the unit, officers called 31-year-old Rachael Melanie Ross. Officials say Ross told them her neighbor was supposed to be watching them, and she later changed her story saying her sister was supposed to be watching the kids until she returned from a friend's house.

When officers entered the apartment after Ross arrived, they found one child without clothes and sleeping next to cat feces.

Ross was then arrested, and after being questioned, she revealed she said needed a break from her kids and left to a male friend's home after putting them to bed.

Ross is now facing child abuse charges.
