A 13-year-old girl has died after she was hit crossing the street in Phoenix.
Phoenix police said the incident happened near 19th Avenue and Utopia Road on Monday night.
Witnesses told police the girl was looking down and crossed the street on a red light with a “don’t walk” signal.
A 19-year-old driver in a Suzuki SUV locked up his brakes and skid several feet, the girl did not notice and the vehicle hit her.
The girl was transported to the hospital where she later died.
The driver stayed at scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
Speed was not a factor in the crash.
