Phoenix police are on the hunt for whoever shot a man in a strip mall parking lot and ran over the victim on the way out.

The scene was near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.  Police were called shortly after 7:30 p.m.

The victim, a 34-year-old black male, got in a white car in that parking lot Tuesday night, according to police.

The man was shot while inside the car, then kicked out of the car and subsequently run over while the shooter’s car drove off. That car is a white sedan, police said.

The motive was not immediately apparent, police said.

A witness ducked after hearing the gun shots, then ran over to help the victim.

The witness used some of the victim’s clothes, which were still in the parking lot hours later, to apply pressure to the victim’s gunshot wounds, police said.

The victim, though in critical condition Tuesday night, is expected to survive, police said.
