Phoenix Police arrested a teenager on Sunday who reportedly drank and drove causing a crash and the death of another teenager.
Salvador Diaz, 19, was driving a Honda Civic around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control and collided into concrete poles, parked cars and a traffic signal on Cave Creek Road and Mountain View Road.
Jose Perez, 19, was sitting front seat, and reportedly not wearing his seatbelt when he flew from the car and suffered head and internal injuries. He was transported to John C. Lincoln hospital where died from his injuries hours later.
A witness identified Diaz as the driver to an officer as he walked away from the scene of the crash. He was found hiding in a bush and appeared to be intoxicated. According to police, Diaz admitted to having six or seven beers before the crash and blew a 0.165 on a breathalyzer test.
Police report the car was traveling more than 80 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone during the crash.
Diaz was arrested and booked into jail on one count of manslaughter.
