The Washington Elementary School District says thousands of employees were affected when their W-2 reports were accidentally sent to someone who was pretending to be the superintendent.
The incident was discovered by the district on April 12.
A person emailed a staff member of the district and said they were the superintendent and needed copies of the W-2 report information. Someone sent the 2015 forms of about 4,400 employees before the fake email address was noticed.
The district says it has worked closely with law enforcement and the IRS to take corrective steps over the mishap, and hasn't released who sent out the information or if there will be any discipline.
The district says it has notified all employees who worked for them between January 1 and December 31, 2015.
