FD: Mother, 18-month-old struck by car in Phoenix parking lot

Police are investigating after a driver struck a mother and her 18-month-old daughter in a Phoenix parking lot before crashing into a light pole.

Air15 video over the scene at 44th Street and Thomas Road showed multiple emergency vehicles, as well as patrol cars blocking traffic at 1 p.m.

According to Phoenix fire officials at the scene, the driver struck the woman and her young daughter in the bank parking lot behind a bus stop, then rammed the nearby pole.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The extent of the infant's injuries is unclear.

Fire officials said the driver also sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital.

Police said initially that the intersection was expected to be closed for five to six hours, but as of 1:15 p.m., traffic was moving in the area. Check current traffic conditions here.
