A man is accused shooting himself and lying to Phoenix police to cover it up.
Police were called to 16th and Washington streets Sunday afternoon after receiving reports about a shooting.
The man allegedly told officers that two suspects stole his gun and shot him before fleeing the area, police say.
It was later discovered that the man fabricated the story in an attempt to cover up that he had actually shot himself.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. A police spokesperson described his self-inflicted injury as "extremely minor."
The man's name wasn't released.
