Newly released police officer body camera video from August 17, 2017, shows the moment Phoenix police officers opened fire on a suspect with a knife, who had threatened people inside the Maricopa County Medical Center.

"He started swinging the knives around, saying he was going to kill people," said the hospital security officer in a 911 call. "He ran into our pediatric emergency lobby, and started screaming obscenities and brandishing the knives, then ran back outside."

Phoenix police responded, tracking down the suspect, 28-year-old Edgar Carreto at a nearby apartment complex.

Carreto is seen on video screaming and cursing at officers. At one point police said he even tried to get into one of the apartment units.

After several commands to "drop the knife," four officers shot less-than-lethal stun bag rounds.

More than ten of the non-lethal rounds were fired over the course of two minutes.

Finally, Carreto is seen walking closer to the officers with his knife. An officer opened fire, shooting Carreto with real bullets.

Officers tried chest compressions, but Carreto died at the hospital.

A knife was recovered from the scene.

According to the police report, Carreto was using drugs. His father even said his son was known to use illicit street drugs.
