Sky Harbor Airport dealing with bed bugs

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is currently monitoring a bed bug issue.

Julie Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the airport, said three padded benches located pre-security in Terminal 4 were removed overnight due to the bed bugs. She said the issue was isolated only to those areas.

Sky Harbor says they will have a professional pest company follow up with the issue to make sure all is clear.

This is reportedly the second time the airport has dealt with bed bugs. Rodriguez said a couple years ago, bed bugs were located in a padded seating area and the seating was immediately removed.

“As we have 200,000 people a day coming through Sky Harbor, sometimes that can happen," Rodriguez told ABC15 Tuesday night, about the bed bug incident. The pests can be easily spread in a variety of public places including airports, schools, movie theaters, hotels and more.

Weeks ago, bed bugs were reported at a west Valley movie theater.
