A Phoenix man is accused of beating his ex-girlfriend to death with a hammer, police said.
Investigators said Caleb Shaffery waited more than two hours after killing Veronica McGarvy to call 911. The couple’s 3-year-old daughter was in the next room, officials said.
Shaffery has a history of bipolar disorder, police said. They also described his relationship with McGarvy as volatile.
The suspect’s mother said her son “snapped” when McGarvy posted on her Facebook page that she was dating a former coworker of his.
Police said McGarvy admitted to the murder and also said that he had “dreamed of killing her for years.”
