New airport technology is coming to Phoenix Sky Harbor.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and American Airlines announced on Tuesday morning they will jointly test CT scanners in Phoenix this year.

American Airlines plans to deploy the CT technology at Sky Harbor by the end of 2016.

According to American Airlines, the CT technology could make it possible to allow passengers to leave liquids inside carry-on bags at all times. This would result in quicker lines and less bin use.

American Airlines said if the Phoenix pilot program is successful, they will deploy the CT technology to other airports.

"These state-of-the-art lanes, along with new detection technology that will be tested in Phoenix, will enhance security effectiveness and efficiency, while improving the customer experience," said American Airlines Chief Operating Officer Robert Isom.

CT technology is currently used at airports to screen checked bags.
