In the shadows of Camelback Mountain, and down a quiet Arcadia street, Hannah York caught an unusual scene.

"It was definitely a rare encounter," said York.

She captured video of a bobcat roaming around the backyard of a home near 64th Street and Camelback.

"At first, when Hannah said there was a bobcat, outside, I didn't believe her. But then when I looked, I was like that's just a giant house cat," said Charlie, who is 8 years old.

First impressions aside, it was a bobcat. York says it was as big as a medium-sized dog.

"I immediately rushed to get the kids, because I knew they would think it was amazing, and we were all super excited," said York.

York and the two boys she nannies watched for about 15 minutes through the glass window. They were in awe that nature came so close.

"I was kind of thrilled, because it was staring right at my brother," said Charlie.

"It spotted us at one point, it approached us, and we all got a little nervous," added York.

The bobcat laid in the grass for a while and then quickly scaled a 6-foot wall and took off.

Hannah says she'll be watching the backyard more often before letting the kids out to play.

Neighbors on the app Nextdoor are also snapping pictures of bobcats. They have been seen perched on walls and in backyards within the past week in the area.
