Kalie Rutledge update: Woman charged with attacking Chinese ASU students sentenced

An Arizona woman charged with attacking two Chinese Arizona State University students for speaking Mandarin has been sentenced to three years of supervised probation.

Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Tuesday that 22-year-old Kalie Rutledge received the sentenced after pleaded guilty to felony assault.

Authorities say Rutledge last month attacked a Chinese couple because they were speaking Mandarin while riding the light rail to Tempe from a Phoenix Mercury basketball game. Police say Rutledge punched both and yelled racial epithets.

In addition to three years of supervised probation, Rutledge also received initial 90 days in jail and was ordered to participate in a mental health program.
