Donald Trump is a billionaire known around the world, but Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's campaign has more cash in the bank than Trump's campaign.
Arpaio, running for re-election, has three times more cash than Trump’s presidential campaign, campaign finance filings show.
The presumptive Republican nominee’s most recent campaign finance filing showed that Trump’s campaign has $1.2 million cash-on-hand.
Arpaio’s campaign has $4.1 million cash-on-hand, according to a Tuesday filing.
“We’re running our race, Mr. Trump is running his,” Arpaio’s campaign manager, Chad Willems, said in a phone interview. Willems declined to make Arpaio available for an interview with ABC15.
Federal records show that Arpaio has not donated to Trump’s campaign, and Willems said the law prohibits Arpaio’s campaign from sending cash to Trump’s campaign. An email attempting to confirm that with the Federal Elections Commission was not immediately returned.
Trump told the “Today” show that he is willing to spend his own money in the general election, but is looking for support from Republicans, the Associated Press reported.
