An American flag that participated in several 9/1 remembrance ceremonies earlier this year was raised in front of the Arizona capitol building Friday afternoon.

The flag, which the governor's office previously said was the same one raised by firefighters at Ground Zero and depicted in iconic photographs in the immediate aftermath of the terror attacks, was actually a 30' x 60' flag known as the Patriot Flag.

The Patriot Flag was flown at the site of the World Trade Center, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon all on September 11, 2016 as part of a ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of the attacks.

Friday's ceremony took place in front of the Executive Tower, on Washington Street just east of 19th Avenue.

The Patriot Flag will travel to Tucson tomorrow.
