Funeral services are scheduled Thursday morning in Peoria for a longtime Phoenix Fire Department captain who was killed in an off-road vehicle accident in northern Arizona last week.
Coconino County Sheriff's officials say 45-year-old Christopher Fitzmaurice wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the ATV he was driving last Friday.
Investigators say the ATV rolled over and landed on Fitzmaurice, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fitzmaurice and a friend were on an elk hunt south of the Grand Canyon and Tusayan at the time of the accident.
Phoenix Fire officials say Fitzmaurice was a 20-plus-year veteran of the department.
He's survived by his widow and four daughters.
