A fundraiser Monday night sought to raise money for Cody’s Voice, a group founded after the death last month of 12-year-old Cody Flom, who died while hiking in the north Valley.

The money raised during the fundraiser at a Loco Patron in Ahwatukee will go toward a push for a state law that would ban children under 18 from being taken hiking when temperatures top 100, organizers said.  The money will also go toward pursuing a negligence claim against the adult who took Cody hiking, according to an organizer of the fundraiser, Carrie Hazard.

The cause of death for Cody is still pending, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cody’s father and stepmother had nothing to do with the decision to take Cody hiking, according to a GoFundMe post. A separate adult took Cody hiking, according to Hazard.  Police have not identified that person.

Phoenix police are investigating.
