Expectant mothers in need will no longer be leaving Mountain Park Health centers empty-handed thanks to a new Baby Box Program.

The organization launched the program Tuesday. It provides expectant mothers with a free Baby Box filled with useful items for mom and child. But, more importantly, the box is also a safe and cozy place for the baby sleep.

“By giving this Baby Box to every expectant mother at Mountain Park, our goal is to provide the estimated 2,000 babies we’ll deliver this year a safe place to sleep, and their moms with supplies and services to help give these babies a healthy and safe start in life,” Mountain Park Health Center CEO Dr. Swagert said.

Mountain Park Health Center officials said the program is a way to help lower infant mortality rates. According to the Central Intelligence Agency, the United Sates is ranked 167th in highest infant mortality rates across the globe with 5.87 deaths for every 1,000 births. See full list here.

Any expectant mothers who receive pre-natal care with Mountain Park Health Center are eligible to receive the free Baby Boxes in their third trimester.
