A Valley family is rallied around a boy's hospital bed after his mom was killed and his dad was critically injured in a Tuesday night car wreck in south Phoenix.

Mason Rosas, 6, was in the back seat, as his mom and dad ran a late-night errand.

"They were going to pick up medicine or something like that," Mason's aunt Lizbeth Ramirez said.

They never finished their trip.

A violent crash with another car at the intersection of 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye sent their car into a pole. Phoenix police have not said what caused the accident.

Mason's mom, Karen Ramirez, was killed.

"She was a free spirit; I mean, she was always laughing," Karen's sister Daisy Montalbo said.

Karen's sisters tell ABC15 both Mason and his dad, Jonathan, suffered major head trauma. They were taken to separate hospitals where neither has regained consciousness.

"We don't know what's going to happen, so we're just waiting," Montalbo said.

Ramirez hopes people in the community "just keep my nephew and my brother-in-law in their prayers, because we really do need them."

They family set up a GoFundMe page, which you can visit HERE.

They are also planning a car wash for Saturday, May 20, at the Metro PCS store at 75th Avenue and Indian School Road.  The car wash will start at 10 a.m. and will help pay for funeral and medical expenses.
