A child was taken to the hospital after a house fire near downtown Phoenix on Sunday morning.
According to Phoenix Fire officials, a fire broke out near 14th and McKinley streets before 7 a.m.
There were no working fire alarms inside the home, so fire officials say the family was very lucky, especially with the thick, fast-moving smoke.
Two women and a 9-year-old were in the house at the time the fire broke out, but fortunately, they were able to escape with a pet dog. Two cats died in the fire.
The child was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
