A Phoenix woman accused of stabbing her two children in 2014 has pleaded guilty to attempted child abuse and aggravated assault.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Brenda Begay changed her plea Friday.

The 40-year-old Begay had previously pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault charges and the case was dismissed when she was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.

She was later found competent and was re-arrested last year on the same charges.

Police say Begay's then 12-year-old daughter woke up on Dec. 16, 2014 to find that she'd been stabbed in the chest.

They say the girl's 13-year-old brother had multiple stab wounds to the chest and a cut on his wrist.

Begay pleaded no contest in 2006 to a child abuse charge involving domestic violence.
