A new report released by True Club Solutions indicates it will cost millions of dollars to reopen a golf course in Ahwatukee.

The reports shows that rebuilding the property, known as the Lakes Golf Course, would cost more than $14 million. Included in the cost is rebuilding the course, clubhouse maintenance and refurbishing the restrooms and pump house.

According to the report, True Club Solutions believes the golf course would lose tens of thousands of dollars in the first three years of business.

The reconstruction costs does not cover the cost of purchasing the land.

“Our goal is to provide a viable asset to the community that benefits everyone and drives property values up. In an already oversaturated golf market, it is now clear that rebuilding a golf course is not a reality. Anyone who claims this property can or will be a golf course again is simply misleading the public,” said Aidan Barry, senior vice president of The True Life Companies.

The golf course has seen its fair share of drama over the past year, with a clubhouse fire and the fight to put housing on the land.

The True Life Companies wants to redevelop it into more housing, which is known as Ahwatukee Farms. Neighbors continue to fight the idea, creating the Save the Lakes campaign.

In February 2016, a fire destroyed the vacant clubhouse. In July 2017, it was ruled the fire was intentionally set.
