Officials are investigating after a California man was electrocuted on a houseboat at Lake Powell last week.

A National Park Service official says 35-year-old John Ruppert of San Bernardino passed away on June 9 while vacationing with his wife and two children.

The family was in Oak Canyon about 50 miles away from a marina when Glen Canyon dispatchers received a call for help. An emergency helicopter was called out to their area around 8:30 p.m., but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

Officials say the cause of the electrocution is under investigation, but the man was not in the water at the time.

So far this year, four people have died in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
