A bear that clawed a man through his sleeping bag in Young, Arizona, has been captured and euthanized, the Arizona Game and Fish Department said Thursday.

Officials said the man, who is in his 20s, was sleeping in a dispersed camping area near Cherry Creek when the bear attacked. He was taken to a local hospital and later released.

There were unsecured food items and garbage in the area where the man was sleeping, officials said.

Game and Fish officials said the bear was euthanized Wednesday night.

Officials said they knew it was the same bear because descriptions from campers matched the bear's description and because it had a unique hind paw pad that matched tracks found at the scene of the attack.
