Authorities have released the name of a man arrested in connection with a car chase and officer-involved shooting from Sunday night.

Police responded just before 8 p.m. to Chaparral Park, near Hayden and Chaparral roads, where a man said a suspect approached him and demanded his keys.

Officers were able to respond to the park before the suspect left. Police say the suspect drove at an officer blocking the exit to the parking lot, causing the officer to fear for his life and fire one shot at the suspect's vehicle

The vehicle continued out of the parking lot and headed east on Chaparral Road. Officers chased the suspect south on the Loop 101 until he exited at McDowell Road and turned west.

The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Reggi Martinez, ran a red light at McDowell and Hayden roads, leading to a three-vehicle crash. Martinez continued, traveling into Tempe before he crashed into desert landscaping at McKellips Road and College Avenue.

Martinez suffered minor injuries as a result of the collisions. There were no serious injuries to those inside the two other cars hit when he ran the red light.

Martinez faces several felony charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer and robbery, according to a Scottsdale Police Department spokesman.

Police said the officer who fired at Martinez has been with the department for five years and was wearing a body camera at the time, but it was not turned on. The department has not released the officer's name but is on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
