Punishment has been handed down to Scottsdale police officers after former Mesa Police Department Lieutenant Rick Van Galder, who was in custody, was allowed past a jail door that said "no prisoners beyond this point."

Mesa police confirmed that Galder was arrested early this year for driving under the influence.

According to Gilbert police, Galder was arrested on February 12 under suspicion of driving under the influence in a neighborhood near Lindsay and Ray roads.

Results showed Galder's blood alcohol content was .306. According to Gilbert police, he was charged with extreme DUI and super extreme DUI.

The Scottsdale Police Department told ABC15 members of its staff have faced disciplinary action in connection to Galder's stay in the city jail.

Commander Bruce Ciolli received a 40 hour suspension while Jeff Landrum, a detention manager, was demoted to detention supervisor.

Officials were not able to release further information as the investigation is still underway.
