An ordinance banning exploding firearm targets might soon be coming to Pima County, Arizona.
County supervisors proposed the ordinance on Tuesday and must wait 15 days before considering it for adoption.
The ordinance would make it unlawful to "sell, offer, or expose for sale, explode or possess any exploding target, or any chemical or material intended to be used as an exploding target."
Violation of the ordinance would be a misdemeanor and violators who cause economic loss to a person could be liable for restitution.
Officials feel banning the targets would lower the risk of fire. Exploding targets are believed to have started the Sawmill Fire, which burned 72 square miles of land south of Tucson this year.
