A federal judge has denied a new trial for former U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi, who is serving a three-year prison term.
Wednesday's ruling by senior U.S. District Judge David Bury comes after Renzi's lawyers argued in October that a key witness was told by FBI agents he could receive payments in exchange for testimony. The government didn't disclose that to the defense.
Government lawyers denied that agents promised payments, saying they simply read a standard set of disclosures that included a mention of possible witness payments.
Renzi was convicted in 2013 of corruption and money laundering.
He did not appeal convictions related to looting his family insurance firm to fund his first election.
He began serving his sentence at the federal prison in Morgantown, West Virginia, in February.
