A Purple Heart turned into a Goodwill store in southern Arizona may soon be reunited with a relative.

Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona posted on its Facebook page Sunday that a medal belonging to Frederick J. Delahunt was turned into its store in downtown Tucson.

Managers believe the Purple Heart was donated by accident and reached out to various veterans organizations to try and find relatives who could accept the medal.

A Second Lieutenant Frederick Delahunt is listed as having served as a pilot during World War II. He was declared missing in action in January 1944 during a mission in North Africa.

On Monday, the organization said it heard that Purple Hearts Reunited, Inc. had made contact with a member of Delahunt's extended family in a different state. Goodwill said it would make sure the medal is returned to its rightful home.
