U.S. Border Patrol agents are investigating the discovery of an incomplete, cross-border tunnel in Nogales, Arizona.

Agents from the Tucson Sector acted on information provided by Mexican authorities Monday.

Mexican government officials say they had located a tunnel entrance in Nogales, Sonora.

The tunnel is about 80 feet long and extends approximately 30 feet into Arizona east of the Morley Port of Entry.

Border Patrol officials say the tunnels generally are used by criminal organizations to smuggle narcotics into the United States.

Since agents discovered the first illicit tunnel in 1990 in Douglas, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents have investigated some 115 tunnels and seized more than 17,500 pounds of narcotics.

Authorities say that of the 115 tunnels investigated, 110 were in the Nogales area.
