The Arizona Department of Transportation says it is on track to issue federally-compliant driver's licenses beginning in April.

ADOT spokesman Ryan Harding says the more-secure form of identification will roll out on time to meet federal deadlines.

Once the state begins issuing the documents, current non-compliant licenses will continue to be accepted until 2020.

The Legislature passed a law this spring allowing the state to provide optional REAL-ID licenses to residents. The worry was that no Arizona documents would be accepted if it didn't comply with the federal ID law.
