A Valley woman is confused and angry after she says someone broke into her backyard and stole her pony.

Peaches, a 23-year-old pony, is now missing from the home near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

"Obviously I cried my eyes out the first 24 hours," said Ann Whitess, who owns the pony. "Now I'm angry. I'm still crying but...I'm angry."

Whitess told ABC15 she woke up Saturday morning and noticed her other horse was loose in the backyard. When she went to see what had happened, she noticed a large hole cut in the back fence, held together by her own bungee cords.

"This wasn't an accident; this was deliberate," Whitess said.

According to Whitess, Peaches has little monetary value, leaving her confused as to why someone would steal her. Peaches also has health issues, requiring medication.

"She's going to get ill," she said. "She is going to die a very slow death."

As much as the theft has angered Whitess, she says it has taken an even bigger toll on her second horse, who is visibly distraught over the loss of his partner.

"He's upset...he's just worn out," Whitess said.

Whitess filed a report with Phoenix Police. She told ABC15 she just wants Peaches returned.
