“Psychedelic, dance party-like, stereoscopic.” Not un-ordinary words when describing the “Starman” David Bowie. The same goes for Andy Warhol.
This art exhibit is called Moonage, showing art in a new dimension.
From afar, it doesn’t look like much. There are only a handful of physical art pieces, but that’s because this exhibit is virtual. It’s actually the Phoenix Art Museum’s first virtual reality art exhibit.
“This to me is a small glimpse of what could happen in the future,” said Sue Winsky after experiencing all three exhibits.
Moonage is a combination of Andy Warhol, David Bowie and Kenny Scharf artwork put together by filmmaker Travis Hutchison.
“[He] took images and his own films and layered them to create these immersive experiences.
Hutchison created a “simulated journey” through the art with the help of virtual reality.
While you gaze in a 3D world of Kenny Scharf’s cosmic cavern, music and VR curb your senses.
“It was vibrant. It was gorgeous. I love vibrant colors and they capture it,” said Winsky.
The virtual art exhibit is open through the end of September.
