PHOENIX — It's an event for engineers that features a lot of tech built for transportation solutions: The ITE/IMSA Spring Conference.

For the first time, organizers brought together professionals to present at what they hope will be an annual Road Safety Forum.

I was asked to present as part of a panel, along with a dozen or so safety experts.

"Operation Safe Roads started as, kind of, the brainchild of a group of people at our station who said, we report on these major issues, what in the world can be done because, you all know, you've watched television news and it can seem negative and overbearing. And we are reporting again and again and again on death and destruction."

From distracted driving issues to the latest numbers on pedestrian deaths, our mission is to find solutions. Many have inquired about our commitment to the issue of road safety. How long would ABC15's Operation Safe Roads last?

"The answer is indefinitely. And we are going to keep up Operation Safe Roads indefinitely as part of our coverage plan due to the fact that it's so important. It's life and death. It really is a matter of people getting home safe to their families."
