What started out as a story about a great boss has turned into one about a fairly mean-spirited son, according to CNN.

A California nurse was given a Powerball ticket by her boss ahead of Wednesday's $1.5 billion drawing.

After the numbers were drawn, the woman's son texted her a picture of the "winning" ticket, saying hers was one of three tickets across the nation to win the massive prize.

ABC7 reported the 62-year-old woman was one of 18,000 nursing home employees and residents to get a ticket from Shlomo Rechnitz, who owns 80 facilities in California.

A spokesperson for Rechnitz told ABC7 the nurse wasn't aware she had "won" until her son sent her a photo of the ticket.

According to CNN, California lottery officials were "skeptical" about reports of the nurse scoring the winning ticket.

The California winner of the jackpot has not yet come forward to collect his or her prize, lottery spokesman Elias Domingez said.
