Michael Proudfit with Titan Alarm says new electronic security lets people see what’s going on in their homes 24/7.

“The largest advancements we've seen over the past few years is the doorbell camera and the Z-wave door lock,” said Proudfit.

"Homeowners, when they go to work, can quickly see if all their doors are locked or unlocked,” said Proudfit. “They can lock them and if there's motion in front of their doorbell camera -- it will send them a quick text message.”

Proudfit says the most common way for a burglar to enter a home is through unlocked doors.

“When burglars come up to a home and see a Z-wave door lock, a doorbell camera, stickers in the windows and a sign in the yard, they're going to pick another house,” said Proudfit.

Z-wave locks allow people to lock and unlock doors from their smartphone.

"When people come home and enter their own unique coding, it sends a message to the homeowner telling them who entered the home and when,” said Proudfit.

Proudfit says these home security systems are not as expensive as they used to be.

Payments can be as low at $45 to $60 a month, depending on what type of monitoring you want.

Proudfit says it's very important to only use properly licensed companies and technicians in the state of Arizona.
