In 2008, Sen. John McCain ran for President of the United States. And, actor Andy Samberg wanted to mimic him on "Saturday Night Live" through Kuato's mutant character in the original "Total Recall."

Samberg dished on the potential skit in a recent Uproxx interview, noting that the SNL sketch made it to a table read, but never saw network television:

"And we wrote one...an “Update” feature with me as Kuato from Total Recall doing a rant about how John McCain had ripped off my style. [Laughs] Saying they had the same hairdo and the same way of talking and all this stuff. And they were like, 'That is not appropriate. We’re not doing that.'"

Samberg wasn't even able to revive the sketch on Seth Meyers' "Second Chance Theater," where former SNL stars get a chance to act out skits that did not make it to air originally.

"I think it might just be a little too rude to John McCain. I think that’s what it comes down to. Even though it wasn’t intended as that," Samberg said.

McCain is currently running for a sixth Senate term in a race that includes fellow Republican Kelli Ward and Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick.

The primary is scheduled for Aug. 30.
