The HOV lane is designated for at least two passengers. This can be frustrating when you are alone in bumper to bumper traffic. Some brave souls take the risk and drive in the lane anyway. But a woman in Mesa, Ariz. took it to the next extreme.

Adorned in a wig, glasses, and covered with a blanket, a mannequin sat beside the woman in her car as her “passenger.” Her goal was simple: get to her destination without any highway police noticing her plus-one was an imposter.

Unfortunately for her, a trooper wasn’t fooled. The trooper stopped the perpetrator and wrote the woman a citation. They even snapped a picture of the incident and posted it on the Department of Public Safety Twitter page.

It may be against the law, but it was a good try. And let’s be honest, we have all thought about it at one point.

An HOV lane violation is $400. So before you try and dress up your pillow as a person, ask yourself if it’s worth it. This driver found out the answer the hard way.

HOV lanes are closed to two or more people on weekdays from 6 a.m to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
