If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it might just be two rescue dogs who have developed a special bond with a pair of rescue ducks.

That is the case in Sydney, Australia, where Pikelet, a rescue red English Staffy, and Patty Cakes, a rescue pit bull mix, have become the best of friends with a pair of ducklings, Penguin and Popinjay.

“We introduced the ducklings to our dogs like we would any other time with foster puppies,” the pets' caretaker, Calley Stoll, told ABC News. “There really wasn't much difference in the reaction of our dogs, [it was] as if they were puppies.”

The friendship between the two pairs of seemingly very different animals is documented on Facebook and Instagram by Stoll and her husband, Brad, who foster rescue animals.

The foursome's friendship will soon be tested when the ducklings move on to their adoptive home. Until then, they’re enjoying their time together.

“For the time being the dogs and ducks eat, play and sleep together,” Stoll said. “They cuddled up to [Patty] on the first night and the rest is history.”
