While most people have jobs, face it, most of us want more money. A more realistic option than hoping for a raise, is to get a *Micro Job.” It’s a temporary, task-type job of all types, often booked through the Internet. Jimmy Rhoades has three side gigs that are easy to do, and the income can add up to some real dollars, and cents.
1. Task Rabbit
Think of this as a dating site for grunt work. People with more money than time, are looking for people with more time, who need money. Just register so they can make sure you're not scary, and you'll start receiving notifications for available tasks. Anything from a coffee run, to assembling Ikea furniture, and what you make depends on the job. Only accept the ones you like, and that pay a fair fee.
2. Gigwalk
This powerful mobile technology lets you find the right workers, manage distributed teams, get real-time visibility and more. Whether you're looking for a little spending money or want to earn an entire extra paycheck, Gigwalk can help. Going on a Gigwalk can be as simple as photographing product displays, and gigs are assigned based on your location, so they're always accessible on foot, or by bike.
3. Amazon
Billed as "Artificial Intelligence," Amazon's Mechanical Turk," or "M-Turk," as it's known by users, asks people to do what they call "Human Intelligence Tasks," or "HITs." Basically things that robots don't do well, like identifying objects in photos, or transcribing text from images. These are usually really simple, mindless tasks that only pay pennies, but the idea is that you can crank through a bunch of them in your spare time so the payouts add up to something worthwhile. You can set up MTurk on your existing Amazon account, or start a new one. You'll be eligible to start accepting HITs 48 hours after registering.
None of these services will take the place of your 9-to-5, but if they fit your lifestyle, then earning a little extra with micro jobs could be the perfect way for you to make some extra cash.
