PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters battled a large fire at a scrapyard this morning.
Crews were called to the business near 19th and Peoria avenues around 10 a.m. for reports of a large column of smoke.
When the first engine arrived they spotted a large pile of debris burning below active power lines and called for backup.
APS was immediately alerted and dispatched a crew to the scene as a precaution.
Fire crews were able to gain access to the back of the property and attacked the flames preventing them to spread.
Officials say nearby businesses had started to discolor due to how close storage buildings with flammables inside were to the fire.
Nobody was reported hurt and the exact cause remains under investigation.
