TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Pima County Sheriff's Office and Picture Rocks firefighters rescued 39 students and two bus drivers Friday afternoon, after a school bus got stuck in floodwater at the intersection of Sandario Road and Ina Road in the Picture Rocks area.

Brett Lane, Chief of the Picture Rocks Fire & Medical District, confirms there were no injuries. A second school bus arrived to pick up the students.

Lane says the Fire District trains for Monsoon water rescues like this every spring.

“It was pretty intense. The rain was pretty heavy. We couldn’t see much," he said. "But we had enough personnel and the proper training to get ‘em out expeditiously. Got ‘em out quickly, without incident.”

Marana Unified School District released a statement indicating the bus came from Picture Rocks Elementary School.

"The driver acted quickly and contacted MUSD transportation, who called law enforcement for support," the statement said, in part. "We thank our drivers for acting quickly and following appropriate safety protocol in the situation."
