When companies want to get approval to merge, they always talk about how good it will be for consumers.
Good how?
I've never seen it mean lower prices.
Staples is now trying to take over Office Depot.
Not too long ago, Office Depot merged with Office Max.
They say it puts them in better position to compete with Amazon, Walmart and others.
They all also likely said it will be better for all of us.
Maybe they mean if they didn't merge, they risk going out of business.
But again, if they say it will mean us spending less, I don't buy it.
I think US Airways said it.
Do you now find lower airfares since it merged with American Airlines?
Not likely.
It just makes sense that less competition means fewer deals and low prices.
Now theFederal Trade Commission is expressing concern.
I'm not sure how far they are along in the process.
But if you feel strongly about it,let them know.
