Can you tell which of these similarly named organizations is a charity and which is a for-profit business?

  • Disabled American Veterans
  • Disabled Veterans of America

"Disabled American Veterans" is a charity organization that helps veterans with medical benefits claims and rides to medical appointments.

"Disabled Veterans of America" has a similar name but happens to be a for-profit business claiming to give to Veteran-focused charities.

But how much is "Disabled Veterans of America" giving? How often are they giving? And why is one charity so concerned, it’s giving the money back to this business?

The Let Joe Know team goes undercover to find out more about "Disabled Veterans of America" and how you can check to see if you're giving to a charity or a place that just sounds like one. Watch the full report tonight at 10 p.m. on ABC15.

Before you donate, you can check that your chosen organization is a verified charity.
