You get a letter from the city with suspicious instructions. Do you follow them?

Vicki in Tempe writes: She pays her "water, sewer and garbage to Tempe Municipal Services."

But, this month she got a letter telling her to change her account number and send money to Prescott instead. Otherwise her payment wouldn't be processed.

Vicki says, "I'm not sure if this is real or fake."

I'd question it to. We did some research, and asked so scam or no scam?

Turns out, this one is no scam.

A representative with the City of Tempe tells me more than 1000 customers have not updated their account numbers since 2011 when the current billing system went into effect, and now is the deadline to do it.

I am told they are letting people know in their water bill and through the city's newsletter.

Also that Prescott address is where the mail processing company is located.

So you can feel safe sending your payments there.

Are you questioning something that could be a scam but you're just not sure?
