Ever dealt with a "sound-alike business"? They can really end up costing you if you aren't careful.

Example: Say you have car registration or license issues -- where do you go?

Hal emailed me saying that when he went online to renew his driver license, he filled out a form and provided his credit card, then a mysterious message popped up. "Congratulations! Your license easy guide purchase was successful."

What? An easy guide?

It promises "information that can save you time and better prepare you for driver license related services...it will help you gather the required documents."

Great, but Hal says, "I don't want their guide book. I want to renew my license."

Turns out, Hal clicked on Drivers-License.org.

It and other driver license-related sites come up during online searches, and they could be very legitimate businesses. But it's not what Hal wanted.

If you're new to Arizona, licensing and car registration is not handled by the DMV.

It's the MVD here, or Motor Vehicle Department.

And the website is servicearizona.com.

Hal did a smart thing. He called his bank and got his money back.
