Don't lose your money shopping online

Did you buy something online for Christmas and still can't get it or a refund?

With more people shopping online during the pandemic, there are more issues involving getting what you pay for.

Chris says he placed an order for a cell phone case after Thanksgiving. He says he got a confirmation and waited.

Chris says he emailed but didn't hear back and there's no phone number.

Before you buy online research the business as much as you did finding the deal. And in this case, you would have found plenty.

Start with a general online search.

Chris says he bought it from freshelites.com. The Better Business Bureau shows the company gets an F, and you can read some of the 74 complaints from the last year like "no product yet, no tracking number, no response, but they charged me."

Also, protect yourself by making sure the website is secure. It should have an "s" after "http" in the address bar.

Instead of a debit card, use a credit card and pick one for all online purchases with a small limit. Thieves can't charge too much and you have 60 days to file a dispute.

Jorge is glad he did. He emailed saying he went to wish.com and bought something for $14. But he says at checkout, the price jumped to $42 and he can't get in touch with anyone.

Online you'd find plenty of complaints. At bbb.org, wish.com has more than 4,300 complaints in the last three years like, "I want my items I ordered."

Jorge says he used his credit card protections and says they've taken the charge off his account.

Wish.com and freshelites.com did not get back to us with a comment by airtime.
