Do you have a home warranty? Do you like it?

Chances are you do if it covered your appliance breakdown.

But, too many times, I hear the other side.

It happened to Steve Jongewaard.

Steve's heating unit stopped working.

His home warranty company has been out.

But he says they couldn't find the problem, and haven't been able to make the necessary repairs.

Most consumer groups advise save your money when it comes to buying home warranties.

Common problems: paying extra costs, parts not covered, claims denied because of pre-existing or normal wear and tear conditions.

Also, in most cases, you don't pick the repair people, they do.

Last year, Choice Home Warranty agreed to pay $779,000 after allegations they used deceptive tactics to deny claims.

Admittedly, I mostly hear the complaints.

But think about it before spending hundreds.

Research the business online, see if you're covered by existing appliance warranties, and remember that some credit card carriers do extend those warranties.
